Information

About - Billy Congo is an outstanding British-bred stallion, owned and bred by the world-famous Billy Stud. He is a compact, nimble stallion with immeasurable power and spring, quick against the clock and always willing and rideable.

Performance - Under Britain's William Funnell, Billy Congo has jumped at the very top of the sport for a number of years, with countless successes. The pair were part of the European gold medal-winnning team at Herning in 2013, and have won several grands prix in their career, as well as being part of many winning Nations Cup teams. After a break from sport to focus on breeding, Billy Congo made a great comeback to the sport by topping a grand prix at Liverpool in 2015. Billy Congo also enjoyed a stellar young horse career, culminating in winning the British national seven-year-old championships as well as the Chantilly Future Elite Championship. He has won over €180,000 on the Global Champions Tour alone, finishing in the top six of four legs in one season in 2013.

Sire - His sire Vechta, a son of the great Voltaire, was discovered by the Billy Stud team as a seven-year-old, when they saw him jump clear around the Oslo Grand Prix. Vechta's full brother, Maiximillian Voltucky, was trained up to small tour dressage and was the national Novice champion as a young horse. Their three-quarter brother Equador was the leader of the 1996 Dutch jumping index. Vechta had a brilliant sport career and jumped internationally with William Funnell, competing at the very top level for many years. He sired many grand prix jumpers, including Billy Buttercup, who was out of Billy Congo's grand-dam, and the CCI3* eventers Billy Landretti and Fernhill Luxury.

Damline - Billy Congo's dam, Billy Autumn, was a daughter of the stud's foundation mare, Tatum, and produced only the one foal before being sold to the USA, where she jumped internationally, including a win at the prestigious Spruce Meadows. Autumn's sire Animo was a grand-prix-jumping son of the great Alme, a prolific stallion who can be found in the pedigrees of countless top horses, and her full brother Billy Orange also jumped to international grand prix. Third sire Clover Hill is one of the most brilliant stallions to ever stand in Ireland, and his influence is still felt today in both jumping and eventing breeding.

Progeny - His offspring are proving every bit as good as their sire, competing successfully in both jumping and eventing. Billy Onslow, Billy Buckingham and Billy Fanta are all jumping at international grand prix, with the younger generations of Billy Congo offspring quickly emerging through behind them; Billy Um Bongo is a licensed stallion and winner of the Addington four-year-old championships, while Billy Cool was 4th in the Sunshine Tour seven-year-old championships. Billy Onslow was 4th in the seven-year-old final in Maubage, while Billy Cointreau was sold to grand prix rider Julie Andrews after a great performance a Bolesworth.
